Divorce and Pension

One in three marriages in the Netherlands ends in divorce. What does divorce mean for your and your partner’s pension? Many people have never thought about this. Women in particular, who often work part-time, can be left with a meager pension after divorce, but divorce can take a big chunk out of the husband’s pension as well.
If you re-marry after a divorce, there is often a much lower partner’s pension for your new partner.
So find out about your own pension situation. Read the brochure “Divorce and Pension” on the right, which gives examples of all sorts of situations that could arise in connection with a divorce.
If that doesn’t answer your questions, go to “Ask a Question” and send an e-mail to the Pension Desk.
